About Working with Children Directorate Working With Children Check Operations is the largest workgroup within the Office of the Children's Guardian, comprised of Customer Service, Records Review and Risk Assessment teams.
Together, we administer the Working with Children Check function.
About the role The role is required to undertake risk assessments for applicants with relevant records who have applied for a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
The assessment is undertaken in accordance with the relevant legislation, policies and procedures and results in the recommendation of an appropriate outcome for each application - either a clearance or refusal.
It also makes statutory recommendations which are determined by the Children's Guardian or Delegates.
The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
We are seeking a motivated and resilient person to work on the following:
Assessing a diverse range of applications and determining the appropriate course of action in a high volume, fast paced work environment.Undertake assessment and analysis of the risks and other relevant factors associated with an application and makes recommendations based on the evidence using an unbiased approach incorporating principles of procedural fairness and relevant contemporary academic literature.Liaise with applicants to explain the risk assessment process and obtain additional information to support the risk assessment and appeals processes.Key knowledge and experience Demonstrated experience in assessment and management of risk in relation to child protection matters or similar.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to write and review assessments.Essential requirements Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent knowledge and workplace experience.Employment at the Office of the Children's Guardian is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks.All roles associated with the Office of the Children's Guardian are required to have a current NSW Working with Children Check.How to apply When applying you will need to attach a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) which also addresses the two targeted questions below and an up-to-date resume (maximum 4 pages) in either Word or PDF format.

In your response, address the key considerations when assessing risk in relation to child protection matters or similar.Provide a recent example of a situation where you were required to handle a sensitive and complex matter, exercising a high level of professional judgment to navigate the issue effectively.Note: the selection process will include a range of assessment techniques to assist in determining your suitability for the role.
