Position Overview Employment Term: Part-time, fixed term (30/06/2025). Location: Townsville, QLD. Remuneration: SCHADS 4 ($43.51 - $46.81 p/hr + loading), 11.5% super. Salary packing available (up to $15,990). Shifts available: Wed 16:00-00:00 & 23:30-08:30, Thurs 16:00-00:00 & 23:30-08:30, Fri 16:00-00:00 & 23:30-08:30, Sat 08:00-16:30, Sun 08:00-16:30 & 16:00-00:00. Commencing: 09/12/2024 Paid induction training: Week 1 Mon-Fri 9 am - 5 pm, Week 2 Mon - Fri buddy shifts. Please ensure that you are available between 4:00 pm - 8:30 am. Townsville (QLD) Response & Connection Practitioners provide immediate assistance to victims/survivors referred to VoCCR by the QPS (Queensland Police Service) after experiencing an act of interpersonal violence. This role will deliver immediate trauma-informed support in the form of answering or triaging inbound calls with compassion, providing psychological first aid and emotional support through traditional CBT interventions such as mindfulness and grounding techniques for callers presenting in acute distress, undertaking risk and needs assessments, safety planning and guiding service users through warm referral pathways.
In-community Travel At times, at the request of the victim and in consultation with the Team Leader, Response and Connection Practitioners will travel to designated locations within the Townsville, QLD area to offer in-person crisis support and, if required, coordinate essential practical needs such as emergency transport and accommodation, food, clothing, safety enhancements, and other forms of practical assistance.
What you will bring Diploma or tertiary qualification in any Community/Human Services related field accepted by DV Connect. Minimum two (2) years of experience in the social and community services sector. Experience working with people who have been impacted by violence, and an understanding of a trauma-informed approach is required. Ability to manage competing tasks within agreed timeframes, including planning, implementation, and coordination of practical support or case management. Experience navigating sensitive situations calmly and professionally. Interpersonal, communication and consultation skills. Ability to work from an intersectional feminist framework and other relevant practice frameworks used to respond to victims of violent crime. Knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Domestic Violence Legislation and Queensland criminal justice legislation, including victim of crime and child protection (or willingness to acquire). Ability to build, maintain, and enhance relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including both sector and non-sector partners. Cultural responsiveness and commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Valid (P) Blue Card. Successfully obtaining a National Police Check facilitated by DV Connect before commencing employment. Right to work in Australia. Additional requirements: Own a reliable, insured vehicle (Please note that you will not be transporting clients). Strong NBN connection. Appropriate and private home office. Open and clear driver's license. Willingness to travel to Brisbane City, QLD for induction training (1 week). What's in it for you? About the Victims of Community Crime Response (VoCCR) Service The Victims of Community Crime Response (VoCCR) service focuses on addressing current gaps faced by victim-survivors needing immediate practical support after experiencing an interpersonal violent crime. Our aim is to provide efficient short-term crisis assistance, such as coordinating emergency transport and accommodation and addressing basic needs, such as food, clothing, home safety upgrades and more, within the first 72 hours of the incident. We also provide warm referrals for long-term support, which may involve legal, health, financial, and housing support.
