Harmony Australasia is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Resource Geologist to join our dynamic team!Brisbane, Australia (Corporate Office) & Papua New Guinea (Mine Site) 9 days at Hidden Valley Mine in PNG, 5 days off, followed by 5/2, 5/2 rotation in Brisbane.International Exposure Full-time Permanent PositionFlexible Working Arrangements Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities.
In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project.
Harmony is currently preparing to progress the Execution Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in Queensland, Australia.
These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.The RoleAs the Resource Geology Specialist, working across our Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea and our Brisbane corporate office on a 50/50 rotation.
This exciting role offers the opportunity to work on complex gold and copper deposits, driving the development and continuous improvement of geological resource and geometallurgical models while optimizing grade control practices to support Hidden Valley's operations.Reporting to the Principal Geologist, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency in resource estimation, applying advanced geostatistical techniques and innovative technologies.
A key aspect of this role is mentoring and upskilling the site geology team at Hidden Valley, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
This position combines technical leadership, hands-on involvement at site, and collaboration with our Brisbane team, making it an ideal opportunity for a resource geologist looking to take their career to the next level.As a Resource Geologist, you will:Manage and continuously improve geological resource models, integrating exploration data, drilling results, and geological interpretations.Collaborate with mine planning and metallurgical teams to ensure models support optimal resource utilization and accurate reserve estimation.Perform regular reconciliations, validations, and audits of resource and geometallurgical models.Apply advanced geostatistical techniques and fit-for-purpose methodologies in resource estimation.Design and implement grade control methodologies, including sampling protocols, QA/QC procedures, and ore scanning technologies.Integrate grade control data into operational decision-making to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.Work collaboratively with mining and processing teams to improve reconciliation practices.Oversee data acquisition processes, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to QA/QC standards.Develop and maintain robust data management systems, conducting audits and quality checks to ensure data integrity.Provide technical leadership to the Hidden Valley geology teams, offering mentorship in resource modelling best practices.Train team members on industry-standard tools and methodologies, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.Maintain qualifications to act as a Competent Person or Qualified Person under applicable codes.Stay updated on advancements in AI, machine learning, and other technologies relevant to mining geology.Evaluate and implement innovative tools and methodologies to enhance safety, productivity, and decision-making.Contribute to strategic projects, including conceptual modelling for long-term planning scenarios and M&A evaluations.Conduct site visits domestically and internationally to support operational and strategic goals.Qualifications and Experience:5-8 years of experience in resource geology, including open-pit and/or underground mining environments.Experience with AI, machine learning, and emerging mining technologies.Proven track record in mentoring and developing teams.Proficiency in geostatistical methods, resource estimation techniques, and industry-standard software (e.g., Datamine, Vulcan, Surpac).Demonstrated expertise in developing and validating geological and geometallurgical models.Familiarity with SAMREC, SK-1300, or equivalent reporting standards.Strong technical writing skills for high-quality reporting and presentationsMembership with a professional body (e.g., AusIMM, AIG, SME).Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or Geological Engineering (Graduate degree preferred)Personal Attributes:Leadership and Mentoring: Strong ability to coach, guide, and inspire team members to achieve technical excellence.Analytical Thinking: Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills with a strategic mindset.Communication: Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills for cross-function collaboration.Adaptability: Flexibility to work in dynamic environments, manage competing priorities, and travel regularly.Innovative Mindset: Openness to new ideas and technologies to drive continuous improvement.Commitment to Safety: Uphold and promote a culture of safety and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.Why Join Us?At Harmony Australasia, we don't just offer a job – we offer a rewarding career with incredible benefits:Flexible working practices that support work-life balance.Eligibility to participate in our company bonus scheme.Highly competitive remuneration, incentives, and other benefits.Corporate / discounted rates with Medibank and Qantas Club.Access to Harmony's benefits discounts scheme.The opportunity to work for an international mining leader with a diverse workforce.A supportive culture where employee contributions are valued and recognized.To Apply:If you believe you have the skills, knowledge and experience to fulfil this role, please submit your application online by clicking 'Apply'.
