About This Opportunity The ARC Training Centre in Critical Resources for the Future is focused on Training Future Geoscientists from Discovery to Processing.
Our future geoscientists will be bridging the gap between Mineral System Science and ore processing/metallurgical extraction understanding of the full value chain of the critical resources essential for the future of humankind.
The ARC Training Centre in Critical Resources brings together industry, four of Australia's leading universities, and state and federal governments to address the challenge of securing our future resources.
The universities collaborating in this initiative have access to cutting-edge research and training infrastructure, including:
Experimental petrology for determining phase stability and element partitioning between minerals and melts/fluids in ores and wastes. Electron microscopy and spectroscopy for advanced mineralogy, mineral structure, and chemistry. Ion microprobes and laser ablation inductively-coupled mass spectrometers for precise dating of minerals and determination of chemical signatures to track metal sources and develop new proxies for fertility. High performance computing facilities to underpin new data access and visualization, and innovative data analytics. Dedicated and highly skilled technical staff in analytical and experimental laboratories. Provisions for industry-relevant training in cultural heritage . Key responsibilities will include: Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You We are seeking to employ a research fellow, situated at the University of Queensland, who will work closely with the industry, government and METS partners to apply multi-scale characterisation techniques to improve the understanding of critical and strategic metal deportment across a range of geological and mine waste materials. These data will be used to determine processing opportunities for the recovery of contained critical metal value. The research fellow will have the opportunity to work across all collaborator universities, as well as develop their own supervisory skills.
Completion of a PhD in the discipline area.
A growing profile in research in the discipline area.
A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia.
