About you: As a Researcher specialising in Materials Synthesis and Preparation, you will play a crucial role in our laboratory operations. You will support research projects and product development initiatives. Your work will focus on:
Membrane synthesis for electrodialysis experiment, spanning polymers, ceramics and composite materialsPrepare materials and handle micron and submicron particles following OHS protocolsAnalyses, e.g., via Inductively Coupled Plasma, Ion Chromatography and Nuclear Magnetic ResonanceTraining for further analytical equipment and electrochemical systems will be provided.This role offers an exciting opportunity for an early to mid-career professional to gain firsthand experience in a cutting-edge scientific environment.
This full-time job will require in-person attendance in the laboratory and offices of ElectraLith, currently at Monash University, Clayton.
Qualifications & experience Must have the right to work in AustraliaEducational Background: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field. A Master's degree in a relevant science field will be regarded.Laboratory Experience: Prior experience in hands-on wet lab research or a development laboratory setting.Technical Expertise in Electrochemistry will be highly regarded: Proficient with electrochemical methods such as galvanostatic/amperometry, linear voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.Instrument Knowledge: Experience with laboratory instrumentation, including ICP-MS, ICP-OES, ion chromatography (IC), and titrators.Analytical and Meticulous: Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail.Membrane and Electrodialysis Knowledge: Familiarity with membranes, ceramics, electrodialysis, and/or electrolyser principles.Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work effectively independently and within a team setting.Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational and time management abilities.Data Analysis: Skilled in data collection and analysis using software tools. Demonstrated experience with data collection, storage, manipulation, and analysis.Safety and Compliance Awareness: Knowledge of OHS standards and laboratory safety protocols.Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills.Experience in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).Tasks & responsibilities Experimental Research on Lithium-Selective Membranes and Electrochemistry:Conduct experiments on lithium-selective membranes in electrodialysis (ED) cells and/or related systems such as diffusion cells and ElectrolysersPerform system setup, monitor operations, acquire data, collect samples, troubleshoot, and shut down equipmentPerform testing and monitoring of experiments and collection of samples across materials, devices, and small-scale systems per written standard operating proceduresElectrochemical testing operating of a potentiostat to conduct DC and AC tests, including cycling voltammetry and EIS. The candidate will receive training.Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting:Gather and analyse experimental data, preparing reports and visualisations for team discussionsUse electrochemical techniques and manage large datasets with proficiencyConduct quantitative analysis, including the preparation of standard solutions and various analytical techniquesOperation of ICP-MS and/or ICP-OES instrumentation - Perform routine ICP analyses on various samples following established protocols and procedures. Assist in the development and optimisation of analytical methods for ICP analysisBe familiar with additional characterisation techniques like Infrared Spectroscopy and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Training is to be provided as required.Laboratory Maintenance and Equipment Management:Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and upkeep of laboratory instruments and equipmentMaintain stock of laboratory supplies, including ordering and organising consumables.Sample and Solution Preparation: Prepare samples, solutions, and reagents in adherence to experimental requirements.Protocol Adherence and Safety Compliance: Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and strictly adhere to laboratory safety protocols.Documentation and Record-Keeping: Document experimental procedures, observations, and results accurately and meticulously.Collaboration and Troubleshooting:Collaborate with team members to support research projects, achieve objectives, troubleshoot technical issues and optimise experimental proceduresContribute to the development of new protocols and methods for laboratory experiments.General Laboratory Management:Undertake general laboratory housekeeping to maintain the organisation and function of the workspace and equipmentOrganize and maintain a clean, efficient laboratory environment.
