Research Officer - Systems Immunology Garvan Institute of Medical Research brings together world leading researchers and clinicians, collaborating locally and globally, to improve human health.

THE OPPORTUNITY The Systems Immunology group (led by Dr Seyhan Yazar) in Garvan's Precision Immunology Program focuses on genomics, data analysis and interpretation, combining computational skills with biological domain expertise.
The group applies and develops computational methods to better understand autoimmune and allergic diseases to enable better diagnosis and treatment of patients.
We take a collaborative approach, working closely with experimental and clinical researchers to tackle problems that address critical unmet medical needs.

start / finish times 18 weeks paid parental leave for both parents including paid superannuation A range of additional leave types to meet your personal needs including cultural leave, conference leave, community service and study leave Discounted Health Insurance Lifestyle discounts with our community partners WHAT YOU WILL DO A Research Officer – Level 1 would conduct original research under limited supervision, and be required to make contributions in more than one of the following areas: Completion of research projects in an efficient and timely manner, with outcomes published under joint authorship in peer-reviewed journals Contribution to team and Garvan research projects Presentation of original research at national/ international scientific conferences, and as invited to seminars locally and/or nationally Co-supervision and mentoring of students and junior research staff Provision of supervisory assistance in preparation of research grant proposals, including contribution of data ABOUT YOU The key skills and experience include: Ph D degree in a related area of science or engineering or equivalent experience Good statistical knowledge and programming skills Good knowledge of biology, immunology background is a plus Previous experience analysing and interpreting genomics data, such as targeted or whole-genome sequencing, RNA-seq, DNA methylation Publications commensurate with experience Comfortable working with Unix and in an HPC environment Proficient in at least one scripting language (R, Python) Familiar with version control systems Experience with software containers, workflow management systems, databases, cloud computing Highly developed written and verbal communications skills ABOUT GARVAN Garvan Institute of Medical Research is an independent Medical Research Institute (MRI) in Sydney, delivering scientific and clinical impact on a global basis and in partnership with organisations that share our vision.
