About the role

Research & Evaluation, incorporating ASERNIP-S (R&E, inc. ASERNIP-S) is the research branch of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) that conducts health technology assessments (HTA) and health policy research for national and international medical decision makers. Clinical evidence synthesis and evaluations are an essential part of the multi-disciplinary research process. Research reports and products that we produce have a direct and important impact on health policy in Australia and internationally. The research officer/senior research officer works as part of ASERNIP-S research team responsible for the completion of HTA and other research projects, producing high quality research reports to inform health policy and facilitate medical decision-making.
Skill and experience
Depending on the skill level and experience, eligible candidates may be appointed at either an entry level (research officer) or a senior level (senior research officer). For appointment at the research officer level, candidates should have:
• Demonstrated experience in the production of quality written reports and/or other scientific papers within tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with systematic literature review methodology and an understanding of the content of health technology assessment reports.
• Demonstrated understanding of the scientific method and recognition of the strengths and weaknesses of different research/study designs.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others, both externally and within a team.
For appointment at the senior research officer level, candidates should meet the above criteria, as well as the following:
• Ability to critically appraise and synthesise complex technical information from the medical literature, and evaluate the applicability of research findings to the relevant healthcare context
• Extensive relevant experience in areas related to health technology assessment, such as biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, health economics, pharmacy, medicine or other disciplines
• Demonstrated ability to lead small to medium sized projects including providing technical oversight and guidance to the project team, managing project timelines, and ensuring high quality research output.
