About QIMR Berghofer: QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments, and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Mental Health and Neuroscience, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane, and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students, and non-research staff.
About the Immunopathology Laboratory: We are investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive immune-mediated pathologies. A major focus for the laboratory is donor stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT), which is an important curative therapy in the treatment of blood cancers. However, the application of allo-SCT is limited by serious complications such as Graft vs Host disease (GVHD), and the risk of relapse which significantly impacts patient mortality and quality of life. Our current focus is developing new therapeutic strategies to treat/reduce the risk of GVHD, whilst retaining the curative benefit of SCT to improve outcomes for cancer patients.
We have several exciting funded projects designed to understand the immune mechanisms that drive disease, identify novel targets, and develop new treatment strategies, and are looking to expand our team.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities: We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to join our team and work with us on a range of funded projects and contribute to new projects and grant proposals.
Key Responsibilities: This role will require experience in advanced immunological assays to characterise immune responses in clinical samples and pre-clinical models such as allogeneic stem cell transplantation. You will be active in the laboratory and responsible for day-to-day project management, as well as be involved in the supervision/mentoring of junior members of the group.Strategic project planning and experimental design to generate high-quality data, and communicate these findings through scientific writing for publication. This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-mid career postdoctoral researcher to develop their experience as part of a multidisciplinary team.
