In principle, an RO conducts research work under guidance from a more senior scientist and they would be demonstrating increasing independence as they progress from RO1 to RO3. In addition , an RO2 would make contributions to some of the following areas:Demonstrated participation in administrative duties of the research group, e.g. oversight of day-to-day lab activitiesPlayed an increasing role in the development of research projects and collaborationsParticipated in Garvan's organisation and management, via committee membership involvement in training and mentoring, journal clubs etc.Participated in professional activities as a member of scientific societiesParticipated in communication of science to the public, via public seminars and media interviewsRESEARCH OFFICER – LEVEL 3Performs with limited guidanceAn RO3 would normally have worked for at least one year at RO2 (or equivalent), and meet most of the above criteria for RO2 at an increased level of performance.
