The position will involve the use of CRISPR-Cas9 technology, APEX-sequencing, next-generation sequencing (including single-cell RNA-seq), bioinformatic tools and a variety of molecular and cell biology approaches. The ideal candidate will have experience in CRISPR-Cas9/13 technology and/or single molecule imaging approaches. Collating and interpreting resultsProducing rigorous empirical results, generating publication-quality images and text, and leading the development of peer-reviewed publications for high quality journals.Performing CRISPR experiments to evaluate the impact of genomic and transcriptomic changesPresenting research methods and results at national and international conferencesProducing and submitting fellowship and other funding applicationsABOUT YOUThe key skills and experience of a Research Officer include:PhD or MD in a relevant areaExperience or interest in studying fundamental aspects of RNA biologyExtensive experience with wet laboratory techniques is expectedStrong problem solving and analytical skillsHave a strong commitment to continuous delivery of high-quality workHave excellent communication skills for written reports and oral presentationsDemonstrate a capacity to work collaboratively with researchers across laboratoriesBe well organised and a good time manager with sound administrative abilitiesMolecular biology skills, e.g. PCR, cloning, mutagenesisExperience in single molecule imaging approaches and/or CRISPR technologiesProficient in computational biology and have previous experience analysing genomics data.Ability to rapidly learn new skills.Experience in drafting and finalising scientific manuscripts.First-author publication(s) in high impact journalsExperience supervising students and/or junior staffABOUT GARVANThe Garvan Institute of Medical Research is an independent Medical Research Institute (MRI) in Sydney, delivering scientific and clinical impact on a global basis and in partnership with organisations that share our vision.
