ResearchTraining development and deliveryPublicationsConsultancy servicesABOUT THE ROLE Role type: 0.6FTE, 12-month fixed term contractClassification: SCHADS level 4.1Location: Hybrid – WFH and in-person at our West Melbourne officeReports to: Research ManagerThe Research Officer supports the implementation of the organisation's research strategy and is responsible for conducting and contributing to research projects and initiatives to inform practice, support advocacy, and amplify the impact of AMWCHR research.
The Research Officer will be responsible for coordinating the preparation of research documentation and ethics applications, conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, and performing literature reviews and report writing. The role will contribute critical, relevant, and timely research to build the organisation's knowledge and research base and will contribute to the organisation's research strategy, training programs, publications, submissions, and policy positions.
This role requires sound conceptual and analytical knowledge around human rights and issues relevant to Muslim communities, and the ability to successfully manage a range of competing demands.
The Research Officer will have exceptional verbal and written communication skills and have experience in research ethics, research methodologies, and reporting research outcomes, as well as an ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative research and program evaluations.
ABOUT YOU Post-graduate tertiary qualification, with research experience, in Public Policy, Gender Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Community Development, Criminology, or other relevant disciplines.Experience conducting successful social science research including through: Development of research frameworks, data collection (i.e., interviews, focus groups, surveys), data analysis, literature reviews, and report writing.Knowledge of a range of social science research methodologies including qualitative, quantitative, and applied research. Understanding of social policy and the application of research to policy, programs, and practice.Advanced verbal, writing, and research skills.Ability to take responsibility and work both independently and within a team environment.A high level of initiative.Analytical, conceptual, and critical thinking skills.Ability to set own priorities; work both independently and as part of a team.Well-developed time management and organisational skills.Ability to work successfully in a changing environment, accept new challenges and continually strive for improvement.Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, to develop and maintain professional relationships and share concepts, information, and ideas successfully.We also highly value experience working with Muslim and/or migrant and refugee communities, as well as experience in grant writing, policy development, and government submission writing.
Proficiency in a relevant community language (e.g., Arabic, Dari, Urdu, Somali, or other), is highly desirable.
