Mater Research are looking for a Research Officer (Postdoctoral Research Fellow) to join the team!
This maximum-term (3 years), full-time role will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

What you'll be doing: The Research Officer will be responsible for conducting research in the development and utilisation of molecular microbiology and related computational methods, cellular biology and animal models to understand the roles of the human microbiota in health and disease, including applications for external funding, publishing outcomes in high-quality outlets, and contributing to the supervision of honours, postgraduate students, and professional staff.
This position is in the IBD Group and will work closely with Prof Mark Morison's microbiology group.
The research focus of this group is understanding the genetic, immunologic, environmental and microbial drivers of gut inflammation and developing novel therapies to treat gut inflammation and restore gut homeostasis.
About you: You will have a PhD in a relevant field of Science – microbiology, inflammation, or gastroenterology and meet the below criteria:
Knowledge of the research environment and demonstrated research skills relevant to the specific project, including data analysis skills. Excellent communication skills with a track record of high-quality research outputs including publications and conference presentations. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute to the research outcomes as part of an effective team, while independently establishing work priorities. Strong academic track record and technical laboratory skills in the broad area of microbiology and immunology. Experience supervising and mentoring junior staff and students. Experience or exposure to using animal models, microscopy, flow cytometry, bioinformatics. Appropriate digital literacy skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, statistical analysis software, Endnote referencing tool, and NCBI Resources including PubMed.
