Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.About Cardiac Bioengineering Group:Our research focuses on understanding the signalling mechanisms that underpin human cardiovascular disease. Combining experiments on patient-derived human heart tissues with state-of-the art human cardiac organoids pioneered in the Cardiac Bioengineering Group, we aim to use a systems biology approach to identify critical cardiac-specific signalling nodes to discover new cardiovascular therapeutics for human disease.Role Purpose / Responsibilities: Applications are invited for skilled researchers to work on projects related to cardiovascular diseases, including identifying novel drug targets, characterising their mechanism-of-action and testing putative will:Undertake research in the area of cardiovascular disease with a view to publishing original and innovative results in refereed journalsPresent research at academic seminars and at national and international conferences, and collaborate with other researchers at a national & international levelAssist in general laboratory tasks, training and supervision of research staffContribute to student supervision, as neededActively contribute to the QIMR Berghofer Infection & Inflammation Program by attending seminars and meetingsModel and promote excellence and integrity, adhering to the highest quality and ethical standardsEnsure work practices comply with the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act, related legislative requirements and the Institute's Work Health & Safety (WH&S) policies and proceduresThis position will involve helping with laboratory tasks over a range of different areas:Human pluripotent stem cell cultureCardiac cell differentiation, culture and experimentationCardiac organoid culture and experimentationMicroscopy, histology, molecular biology and biochemical approaches to analyse protein functionAbout You:To be successful in this position you will need:PhD (or submitted for examination) in cardiac research, pharmacology or a related fieldExperience in cardiovascular research in a laboratory settingWillingness to learnAbility to integrate into a social lab environment and willingness to share ideasOutstanding oral and written communication and the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team in a collaborative research environmentExperience in fluorescence microscopyExperience in confocal microscopyExperience in microscopy-based spatial biology approachesExperience in molecular biologyExperience in drug testingExperience in lab administrationRemuneration: Salary range is $92,403 to $99,142 p.a. plus super and generous salary packaging.
