Research Fellow (Statistical Data Science) University of Wollongong, Australia Jul 20, 2024 Location: University of Wollongong, AustraliaRole type: Fixed-term, full-time research only appointment (2 years)Department/School: School of Mathematics and Applied StatisticsSalary: Level B: $114,572 – $132,315 + 17% superannuation## About the RoleThe National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia (NIASRA) at the University of Wollongong is seeking a statistical data scientist to work on research projects in areas that include statistical spatial modelling; Bayesian inference and uncertainty quantification; optimal design; statistical machine learning; and time series modelling.
The role will be within the data science team of the Australian Research Council Industrial Transformation Research Hub (ITRH) for Transforming energy Infrastructure through Digital Engineering (TIDE), which comprises an international team of multi-disciplinary researchers and industry partners that focus on harnessing data and physics-based science to better understand offshore energy environments (.au).

The occupant of the position will also be a member of the TIDE ITRH, based at the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre (IOMRC) at the University of Western Australia (UWA).
The successful applicant will benefit from regular interaction with applied scientists and data scientists at the IOMRC as well as industry partners, through regular virtual and in-person meetings.## Who we are seekingWe are seeking an enthusiastic individual who has obtained, or has nearly obtained, a relevant Doctoral qualification in computational statistics, spatial statistics, Bayesian inference and uncertainty quantification, or closely related fields.
