Base salary will be in the range $110,365.29 - $130,765.78 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level B)

About This Opportunity An exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to undertake research in estuarine dynamics, with a focus on coupled hydrodynamic and water quality modelling, to improve the understanding of sediment and nutrient cycling in these systems with a view to enhancing sustainable management of water resources and aquatic ecosystems.
This position will also support Academics within the Environmental Engineering discipline, School of Civil Engineering improve research output and, in particular, the delivery of key research partnerships with the Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation and the University of Western Australia.
Key responsibilities will include: Research Lead research in estuarine water quality modelling, innovative monitoring solutions, and adaptive monitoring of water quality and ecosystem health in catchment-estuary-coastal systems, including fieldwork in remote locations.
Communicate research progress and findings through reports, presentations, and scholarly publications, ensuring stakeholder engagement.
Expand the research program by contributing to external funding applications and collaborating with colleagues and postgraduates on new projects.
Provide administrative support for ongoing research and consultancy projects, as well as perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Teaching and Learning Assist senior academic staff deliver high quality teaching materials.
Contribute to supervision, mentoring and training of research staff and students at honours and postgraduate levels.
Supervision and Researcher Development Foster the School's relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
Citizenship and Service Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You Essential PhD in environmental engineering or a related field, with experience in environmental water and water quality data collection and analysis, as well as water quality, hydrodynamic, or catchment modelling.
Proven leadership in research projects, a track record of scientific publications, and the ability to write high-quality research articles.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn new techniques quickly, manage time effectively, and prioritise research tasks.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, students, and external partners, and represent the discipline within the academic and broader community.
Desirable Strong background in projects that focus on water quality modelling of environmental systems or hydrodynamics in environmental waters.
Experience in liaising and collaborating with external agencies to develop co-operative research initiatives and maintain research partnerships.
