(pro rata for part-time) plus 17% superAbout the RoleThe University of Melbourne Indigenous Health Equity Unit is seeking an experienced postdoctoral researcher to support an exciting program of research addressing urgent public health issues including intergenerational trauma and improving health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The appointee will join a dynamic Aboriginal-led team working on improving support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and families, implementing and evaluating strategies to address intergenerational trauma in the perinatal period, with a strong knowledge translation component. The position will be based in the Indigenous Health Equity Unit (IHEU), Onemda: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellbeing, in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health.Your responsibilities will include:Contributing to research across the unit including research on intergenerational trauma, applied mixed methods research and strategies to improve Indigenous health outcomesConducting scoping reviews and both quantitative and qualitative data analysisProducing high quality publications in peer reviewed journals and contributing to other papersWho We Are Looking ForWe are looking for a candidate with demonstrated knowledge or experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in a culturally safe environment, and experience in public health research or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Additionally, this candidate will have experience or an understanding of trauma-informed approaches.The ideal candidate will be able to work independently when required, but also have strong written and verbal communication skills, and collaboration skills, that enable them to work effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team. They will have an emerging research profile, evidenced by a track record of peer-reviewed publications, and excellent data collection and statistical analysis skills, being experienced with both quantitative and qualitative analysis software.You will also have:PhD or equivalent expertise and experience in public health or related fieldDemonstrated experience and/or understanding of trauma-informed approachesExcellent organisational skills coupled with the ability to effectively time manage and meet deadlines, particularly in a dynamic research environment with evolving and shifting prioritiesThis role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
