Job DescriptionAbout the role The Research Fellow will work within the Institute of Biomedicine and Glycomics to support the Marine Bioproduct CRC Grant-funded project entitled "Cultivating Novel Probiotics from Marine Microbial Sources".The project aims to develop and commercialize natural and sustainable probiotic-based animal feed supplements, characterized by a proven level of activity and well-defined mechanism of action.The research fellow will lead the comprehensive assessments of microbial safety and resistance to stress, their specific health benefit, and mechanisms through which they influence animal health and immunity.You'll work closely with the multidisciplinary research teams at the Institute of Biomedicine and Glycomics.You'll contribute to important research that identify microorganisms as novel probiotics.This role offers an exclusive opportunity to work closely with academic and industry partners, advancing your academic development and research.Conduct experiments to identify, cultivate and ferment marine microbes.Develop assays to assess microbial safety, resistance to stress, adhesion, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity.Conduct NMR metabolomic experiment and data analysis.Manage the preparation and formulation of publications, presentations and research reports arising from the research.Assist in mentoring and supervision of higher degree research candidates.Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including research ethics, equity and health & safety, laboratory standards and exhibit good practice in relation to same.Be a leading example of the principles and values embodied in the University's Code of Conduct, and behave, act and communicate at all times to reflect fairness, ethics and professionalism.This is a full time, fixed term (34 months) opportunity based at the Griffith University Nathan campus.As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.Griffith University's campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.About you A PhD or equivalent qualifications/work experience in microbiology, molecular biology, and related disciplines.Extensive experience in microbe identification, isolation, and cultivation.Extensive experience in cell culture and the development of cell-based assays.Demonstrated proficiency in metabolomics and advanced data processing.Demonstrated publication track record and the ability to prepare research reports and manuscripts.Demonstrated excellent organisational skills to meet deadlines and bring projects to a timely completion.Experience in the use of HPLC, LC-MS and NMR are desirable.Salary Range Research Fellow, Grade 1 range $84, - $99, per annum + 17% superannuation.The total FTE package will be in the range $99, - $, per annum.
