Job Description The Queensland Micro- and Nanotechnology Centre (QMNC) conducts and facilitates cutting-edge research in nanotechnology, microtechnology, and micro and nanosystems – work set to transform the future of climate science and the health and energy sectors.
Our research activity spans physics, chemistry, molecular biology, applied mathematics and engineering.
As a Research Fellow, you will use your expertise to advance optical Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) medical devices and drive meaningful change.
You will be part of a team developing a next-generation MEMS actuator for dentistry, aiming to create a novel and robust MEMS mirror system capable of controlling high-power femtosecond laser integrated in an intraoral device for precise ablation of dental hard tissues.
This project is funded by the Australian Government under the ARC and AEA funding schemes.
The purpose of this position is to conduct research and development of advanced MEMS optomechanical sensors and actuators (MEMS mirrors) and a miniaturised laser ablation device for pain-free dentistry.
You will be responsible for: Conducting experiments and research that contributes to the project's objectives Engaging in regular meetings with industry partners and external researchers.
Developing a strong publication record and seek competitive funding.
Contributing to research projects, manage publications, and mentor research candidates.
This is a fixed term (3 years), full time position and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus.
As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.
Griffith University's campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range The full time equivalent base salary will be Academic Research Fellow Grade 1 range $84,830 - $99,367 per annum + 17% superannuation.
The total FTE package will be in the range $99,251 - $116,259 per annum.
Qualifications To be successful in this role you will hold a Ph.D. in engineering, physics, or a related discipline, or equivalent qualifications/work experience.
You will also have: Knowledge and experience in MEMS sensors and actuators development and characterization.
Minimum 12 months of experience with silicon microfabrication, including mask layout design, lithography, thin film deposition, wet and dried etching, die attach, and wire bonding.
Experience in medical device integration, covering mechanical design, analysis, fabrication, and characterization.
Knowledge of semiconductor physics, optics and optomechanics.
Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills and contribute to the positive culture and aspirations of the research group, School and University.
Experience in contributing to group research projects, mentoring and supervising higher degree research students.
