About the role As a Research Fellow you will be part of an international interdisciplinary and multi-institutional research team in the area of One Health.
You will be part of a multi-state research project implementing community-based mental wellbeing and disaster preparedness programs in natural hazard-prone rural communities across NSW, SA and WA.
The project will also assess longer-term mental health outcomes of rural Australians.
This project will critically contribute to rural health, disaster preparedness, and protecting mental health and wellbeing in the face of climate change.
Your role will include supporting the establishment and implementation of the research project, overseeing data collection, contributing to quantitative, qualitative and/or longitudinal data analysis, and preparation of publications, reports and conference presentations.
You will work independently under guidance of the chief investigator team, and in collaboration with the trial coordinator and research assistants, and help to supervise postgraduate or Honours students.
About you To be successful in this role, you will have: A PhD or extensive research experience in psychology or health An emerging track record and demonstrated skills in related research Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills An enthusiasm to work in a team environment Knowledge of OneHealth, mental health, rural health or clinical psychology or experience in clinical trials Willingness to engage with community groups and stakeholders to achieve research objectives About the School The School of Psychology at UNE is a leading provider of psychology education and training and the university of choice for students who wish to work in rural and regional Australia.

The School of Psychology currently has an exciting opportunity for a research fellow within the new One Health research pillar.
The School of Psychology at UNE is rated at well above world standard for research across topic areas, with key research streams including Environmental Psychology, and Psychosocial Health and Wellbeing in Rural Communities.
The Psychosocial Health and Wellbeing Research Group comprises academics with a particular focus on understanding the mental health of those living in rural populations, including in response to natural disasters such as drought and fires which particularly impact rural communities.
The Environmental Psychology and Climate Change Research Group comprises academic staff and students who are interested in how psychological principles can be applied to understand and help solve problems related to environmental sustainability and helping individuals and communities adapt to climate change.
Projects examine the impacts of climate change and resultant natural hazards such as fire, flood, cyclones and drought on health and wellbeing.
Research projects also focus on how to build resilient individuals and communities, including through interventions to support the well-being of those affected by natural hazards and climate anxiety.
