The Queensland Micro- and Nanotechnology Centre (QMNC) was established in 2009 with core capabilities in microtechnology, nanotechnology and materials. QMNC is an interdisciplinary research unit, with internationally recognized expertise spanning physics, chemistry, biology, applied mathematics and engineering supporting both fundamental breakthrough science and applications. Research is organized around themes of: Transport and flow in biomedical systems; Microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip technology; Materials for energy storage and conversion; Beyond-silicon devices including silicon carbide and gallium nitride; Surfaces, interfaces, porous materials and membranes; Preparation, properties and applications of graphene; Computational science and engineering; Micro- and nanoscale systems; Translational technologies for medicine.
The opportunity
The Centre is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on the project "Preparing quantum chemistry for the second quantum revolution", which is funded by the Australian Research Council. The project objectives are to develop new quantum chemical modelling techniques for open quantum systems. The role will involve fundamental research into innovative density functional theories for improved quantum chemical modelling of excited state processes, as part of an interdisciplinary project with chemical, physical, mathematical and computer science components. The Research Fellow will be expected to make advances in fundamental chemical theory, publish research results, and implement new theories into computer code (Psi4 in the first instance).

The Research Fellow will work within the research group of Dr Tim Gould based in the Queensland Micro- and Nano-technology Centre at Griffith University, Australia. As part of their duties they will also be expected (subject to coronavirus restrictions) to visit Weizmann Institute, Israel, to undertake collaborations with Prof. Leeor Kronik.

This is a fixed term (approx. two years), full time position based at the Gold Coast campus. Griffith is a multi-campus university and therefore it is understood that this position will work across campuses as required.

The successful candidate will be appointed at either Grade 1 or 2 depending on experience, skills and qualifications.

About you
The successful applicant will have a PhD in a field relevant to chemical theory, theoretical physics or chemical physics; and advanced undergraduate (3 rd or 4 th year equivalent) understanding of Mathematics (especially linear algebra and analysis). Applicants with an applied Mathematics background may also be considered. You will have demonstrated experience in theoretical physics, chemical physics or chemistry, as evidenced by publications in the field (Grade 1), or extensive research experience including leadership responsibility (Grade 2). Demonstrated experience in programming for scientific problems will be considered a major. You will have development of publication record (Grade 1), or well established track record of publications in esteemed peer-reviewed journals (Grade 2) . The successful applicant will have high level interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication skills.

Salary range
Grade 1: $75,391 - $88,311 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $88,208- $103,324 per annum.

Grade 2: $96,249 - $114,299 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $112,611 - $133,729 per annum.
