Research Fellow - Drone Collision Risk Assessment Techniques

Details of the offer

Research Fellow in Drone Collision Risk Assessment Techniques Who are we looking for? We are seeking a Research Fellow in Drone Collision Risk Assessment Techniques to join the School of Electrical Engineering and Robotics, Faculty of Engineering.
You will conduct research within the collaborative project "Australian Digital Airspace Characterisation" funded by the Emerging Aviation Technologies Partnerships (EATP) program and in partnership between Queensland University of Technology (QUT), industry, and the federal government. The Research Fellow will play a crucial role in developing quantitative approaches to uncrewed (drone) aircraft collision risk modelling using data, applied statistics, and practical aviation constraints/standards. Using multiple large datasets and supporting infrastructure, the collision risk models will be used to create new digital resources and information that enhance uncrewed mission planning, flight approval, airspace management, and regulatory applications. Such technologies will be tested with project partners and stakeholders, providing direct translation and commercialisation pathways.
What you need to succeed Completion of a PhD in a relevant discipline preferably in Mathematics or Engineering (Robotics, Aerospace, Computer Systems, Electrical). Demonstrated ability to conduct applied research, balancing theoretical and practical engineering concepts. Demonstrated experience in manipulating, exploring, and analysing large data sets using advanced statistical techniques. Demonstrated experience using mathematical software packages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R) and/or developing software in other packages (C, C#). Demonstrated written communication skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records, with a demonstrated track record in publishing in high-quality conferences and journals, and experience in summarising scientific data in reports. Demonstrated ability and motivation to engage and actively collaborate with industry partners and government. Demonstrated ethical standards in research confidentiality including the ability to protect intellectual property. Experience working in or with industry partners preferred. How to Apply Discover the possibilities that await with a career at QUT. If you're ready to embark on a journey of innovation and opportunity, we're excited to meet you.
