Role Overview: The Research Data Platform Architect will lead the design and development of a scalable, secure, and robust data platform to support a variety of research initiatives, data-intensive workflows, and scientific collaboration. You will collaborate with researchers, data scientists, and IT teams to ensure that the platform meets the evolving needs of cutting-edge research in the university or life sciences sector.
Key Responsibilities: Architectural Design: Lead the design of data platforms tailored for research, focusing on high-performance computing, data storage, processing, and retrieval in a scalable and secure manner. Platform Development: Oversee the implementation of the data platform, including integration with existing systems, data pipelines, and research tools. Data Strategy: Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for the platform, ensuring alignment with the institution's research goals and long-term data strategy. Collaboration: Work closely with research teams, data scientists, bioinformaticians, and IT to gather requirements, ensure platform usability, and promote adoption. Compliance & Security: Ensure the platform meets regulatory and security standards, including HIPAA, GDPR, or other research-specific data protection regulations. Optimization: Continuously improve platform performance, availability, and reliability by optimizing cloud-based resources, compute power, and data flow. Support & Documentation: Provide technical leadership and support to the research teams, document architecture, standards, and best practices. Vendor Management: Liaise with technology vendors to evaluate tools, manage contracts, and integrate external solutions as needed. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or related fields. PhD (preferred) for life sciences organizations. This role at Amber Labs is a Fulltime position, and all employees (Must hold current be eligible for BPSS Clearance).
