This project is funded by the Commonwealth Government's Trailblazer program, an industry partner and Curtin University.
The industry partner is Xcalibur Multiphysics, which flies airborne geosurveys and develops instruments for airborne geosurveys.

Your new role We are seeking a passionate Research Associate to expand our expertise in opto-mechanics and undertake R&D associated with the development of LIDAR instrumentation based on Raman spectroscopy applied to the stand-off airborne detection of natural hydrogen gas emanating from sub-surface terrestrial sources.
Additionally, there is a focus on aspects of safety in the workplace, with the ultimate goal of detecting fugitive hydrogen gas emissions.
To be successful in this role, you will require a PhD in Engineering or be close to completion.
We are also interested in hearing from candidates who have equivalent combined academic qualifications and industry experience.
You will also be required to obtain Laser Safety certification.
In this role you will: Conduct High-Quality Research:  Apply LIDAR and Raman spectroscopy to determine in real-time the concentration of fugitive emissions of hydrogen gas and associated fuels in industrial and urban environments where these gases and fuels are being manufactured or consigned.
Develop Industry-Relevant Project Objectives:  Ensure that project objectives are aligned with industry needs and meet scheduled project milestones.
Collaborate Effectively:  Engage in collaborative activities with team members, industry partners, affiliated associations, and the wider research community to advance project goals and foster professional relationships.
Please note you will require work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role to be considered.

Essential Criteria: PhD in Engineering or the Physical Sciences (or working towards) with experience in areas such as  optical system design and/or spectroscopy Demonstrated relevant subject/discipline knowledge and knowledge and experience in relevant research techniques.
Demonstrated competency in a range of qualitative and quantitative research tasks.
Emerging research track-record/potential to conduct quality research and contribute productively to research teams under supervision.
Demonstrated high level organisational skills.
Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
Desirable Criteria: Experience of working collaboratively with industry and community engagement.
