Description SummaryResearch associates are expected to coordinate and support students in the development and execution of research tasks and to support faculty investigators, senior researchers, and laboratory personnel.
The job consists of supporting the principal investigator in the development and execution of research in the area of materials science, plasma spray, laser/materials interactions, and/or ceramic oxide coatings through the gathering of data and its analysis through computational and analytical methods, through the writing and publishing of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and through the identification and submission of applications for extramural funding.Research Assistant – Post Doc position available in the WiCE Laboratory located in the 501OEC – LAB a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, you will provide advanced research and development support in the areas of data engineering, data science, security, cloud systems, systems engineering, and programming.
Your responsibilities include working with NoSQL databases, particularly Accumulo, and developing data ingest and query frameworks for managing high-velocity, high-veracity data, supporting AI/ML data management efforts.
You will also need to code in Java, C++, or Python to implement and test software solutions.
You will be expected to guide and mentor students, review their work, and provide constructive feedback to ensure high-quality outcomes.
You will play a critical role in shaping their learning experience and development as researchers and engineers.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:Conduct research and development in data engineering, data science, NoSQL databases (especially Accumulo), data ingest and query frameworks, cloud systems, security, and systems engineering.Utilize Java, C++, and Python programming skills for the development and testing of software solutions.Develop and implement data management strategies in support of AI/ML projects.Collaborate with team members to design and implement solutions to technical and guide students, review their work, and provide feedback to facilitate their learning and development.Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, publications, and presentations.EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED:PhD in Computer Engineering or a related field.Proficiency in Java, C++, and Python programming.Preferred experience with NoSQL databases, particularly Accumulo, and knowledge of data ingest and query background in data engineering, data science, cloud systems, security, and systems engineering.Experience in data management for AI/ML applications.Excellent communication and mentoring skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research OpportunityFlorida Tech does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, genetic information, age, pregnancy, parenting status, veteran status or retirement status in its activities and programs.
