Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance – Melbourne VICIf you're passionate about research and analysis with a commitment to detail and accuracy, this could be the ideal opportunity for you to join the team at AUSMASA, in the newly created Research Assistant role.You'll be involved in conducting thorough desktop research and analysis to support workforce planning and policy development for Australia's mining and automotive sectors.Who are you?You are a self-starter who takes initiative and works both autonomously and as part of a talented team. You value diversity and actively contribute to a respectful and fun workplace.What will you be doing?Reporting to the Senior Manager, Workforce Planning and Policy, some of your key responsibilities will include:Conduct research using industry reports, news articles, government policies, and stakeholder feedback.Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis to identify trends, skills gaps, and macroeconomic drivers.Draft and contribute to research notes, reports, and briefing materials.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry developments and emerging opportunities.Support workforce planning activities and assist in stakeholder engagement efforts.Collaborate with colleagues and participate in events such as industry roundtables to gather insights.More specifically, you will:Explore the broader labour market and tackle diverse topics like data and skill migration, higher education reform, and legislative inquiries.Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to support the broader team.Thrive in the broad remit with plenty of scope and learn a lot with a balance of quantitative and qualitative research for variety and impact.Have access to training and mentoring to develop advanced research skills.Must haves:Bachelor's degree in social science, public policy, economics, law, or commerce.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills.Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing competing priorities.A collaborative team player with excellent attention to detail.Bonus points:Knowledge of the Australian mining and automotive sectors or vocational education systems.Previous experience working in research or policy roles.Familiarity with policy environments related to the automotive or mining.Who are we?The Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA) is one of 10 Jobs and Skills Councils (JSC) funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.As a JSC, we have 4 core functions:Workforce planningTraining product developmentImplementation, promotion and monitoringIndustry stewardshipWe partner with industry, government, RTO's and unions to help meet the mining and automotive sectors' workforce capability requirements.
