Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated research assistant to join the Laboratory of Vaccines for the Developing World at the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics.
Candidates interested in translational research are encouraged to apply as this position will contribute to and support research that is focused on developing and progressing novel vaccine strategies for malaria, Group A Strep and Babesia from the laboratory into clinical trials.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
To assist in the ongoing development and maintenance of a Quality System for the production and testing of novel vaccine candidates including for example GMP documentation and processes according to current guidelines.
Assist in the development and maintenance of a Quality System for the operation of clinical trials according to GCP and maintaining trial and site master files.
Assist in the implementation of the Quality Systems according to current regulatory guidelines.
Assist in the management and processing of materials and supplies used in GMP and non-GMP processes and activities related to the production and testing of the vaccine candidates.
Assist in GMP activities as required including but not limited to process validation, clean room processes including cleaning and environmental monitoring and basic vaccine manufacturing procedures.
Ensure that assigned project targets are met in a timely manner.
Attend regular staff and project meetings as required.
Perform other tasks as required.
Maintain a flexible approach to working hours, where required, in order to meet the requirements of the projects.
Support compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including research ethics, equity and health & safety, laboratory standards and exhibit good practice in relation to same.
Be a leading example of the principles and values embodied in the University's Code of Conduct, and behave, act and communicate at all times to reflect fairness, ethics and professionalism.
This is casual position based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. The successful candidate will be appointed at either Grade 1 or 2 depending on experience, skills and qualifications.
Casual rates apply and will be based on experience and qualifications.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a science degree with appropriate work experience in a similar or relevant discipline.
In addition to the above, you will demonstrate:
Well-developed verbal and written communication, interpersonal and consultation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and co-operatively within a small team; including the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and contribute to continuous improvement.
Demonstrated ability to manage and meet deadlines and achieve milestones.
Demonstrated competence in the use of computer packages and electronic databases including word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Excel), email and web-based materials.
A demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex instructions, guidelines; and a demonstrated ability to critique documents and provide constructive feedback.
Knowledge of and experience in implementing Good Manufacturing Practices/Good Laboratory Practices/Good Clinical Practices is highly desirable.
