The Matilda Centre brings together researchers in broad fields to share skills, integrate data, and harness new technologies to shed light on the nature and understanding of substance use and mental disorders as well as develop and trial innovative prevention, early intervention and treatment programs.The Matilda Centre seeks a Research Assistant with the passion and drive to work in the field of mental health and substance use. Specifically, this role will require the preferred candidate to work on a new clinical trial examining the effectiveness of an integrated psychological treatment of posttraumatic stress and substance use disorder among young people aged 12 – 25. Using your personal experiences and understanding of mental health and substance use, you will play a key role in administering research screening and study assessments over the phone and in person, with some travel to services within the Greater Sydney area required. The role will also include coordinating appointments, assisting with recruitment and retention of participants, conducting data entry and analysis and contributing to the reporting and publication of research data.Your key responsibilities will be to:Conduct structured interviews with adolescents and young adults experiencing posttraumatic stress and substance use problems, ensuring adherence to study protocols and data quality and accuracyAssist with participant recruitment and retention during and following treatment completionSchedule participant appointments and conduct eligibility screening and informed consent proceduresActively contribute to research team meetingsConduct data entry and analysisContribute to the dissemination of trial findings through reports, presentations and peer-reviewed publicationsWork alongside the University's ethics, standards, and regulation guidelines.About youHonours degree in psychology, behavioural sciences, public health, Social Sciences or a related fieldDemonstrated understanding of mental health and/or substance use disorders (including any lived experience of these conditions)Demonstrated experience conducting research assessments with vulnerable populations, with a high level of empathy and sensitivityDemonstrated understanding of research protocols, preferably clinical trials, and experience in complying with Good Clinical Practice, regulatory, ethical, privacy, and other relevant guidelinesProven experience in management and statistical analysis of research data, including familiarity with statistical software packagesSophisticated interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a teamStrong organisational and time management skills, with a keen attention to detailUnrestricted NSW driver's license for travel (reimbursement funds available).Sponsorship / work rights for AustraliaPlease note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This role requires valid work rights for Australia.Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
