What will you be doing?Reporting to the Senior Manager, Workforce Planning and Policy this newly created role is critical in conducting in-depth research and analysis to support workforce planning and policy development across Australia's mining and automotive sectors.
Some of your key responsibilities will include: Conducting both qualitative and quantitative research using various sources, including industry reports, government policies, and stakeholder feedback.Identifying trends, opportunities, skills gaps, and macroeconomic drivers impacting the sectors.Drafting research notes, reports, briefing materials, and workforce planning documents.Collaborating with stakeholders and participating in industry roundtables to gather insights.Building internal and external networks to enhance research and industry knowledge.Maintaining up-to-date awareness of industry developments and contributing to AUSMASA's activities.More specifically, you will: Support the national teamMaintain accuracy and integrity across research materialExplore the broader labour market and tackle diverse topics like data and skill migration, higher education reform, and legislative inquiries.Thrive in the broad remit with plenty of scope and learn a lot with a balance of quantitative and qualitative research for variety and impact.Must haves: Bachelor's degree in Social Science, Public Policy, Economics, Law, or Commerce.Minimum 1 year of experience in Research or Policy roles.Strong analytical and communication skills with attention to detail.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.Collaborative mindset with a respect for workplace diversity.Bonus points: Master's degree in a relevant field.Knowledge of the Australian mining and automotive industries or Vocational Education and Training system.Experience in legislative or policy-related roles within these sectors.Power BI experience.Who are we?The Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance (AUSMASA) is one of 10 Jobs and Skills Councils (JSC) funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Workforce planningTraining product developmentImplementation, promotion and monitoringIndustry stewardshipWe partner with industry, government, RTO's and unions to help meet the mining and automotive sectors' workforce capability requirements.
We play a pivotal role in ensuring Australia's VET system is responsive to the changing needs of industry and the Australian economy.
