Primary objective Contribute to the implementation of the Elders Visiting Program and the Department of Corrections Community Engagement Framework through the provision of project management, strategic advice, research and analysis, and dissemination of information.
Key duties and responsibilities Assist with the review and implementation of Elders Visiting Program strategic initiatives to inform policy and program development through community engagement and in collaboration with key stakeholders. Facilitate efficient and effective delivery of a range of services related to community engagement activities across all divisions of Northern Territory Correctional Services. Broker partnerships and support networks to generate solutions that reduce reoffending and contribute to community safety. Identify potential new service areas or best practice program delivery to provide services best suited for an Aboriginal clientele. Conduct meetings with stakeholders and provide secretariat support to various working groups, including Elders Visiting Program annual forums. Develop and implement cultural learning, training and mentoring strategies that assist staff in providing high-level services to Aboriginal prisoners, offenders, and their families that is consistent with Departmental policy and legislation. Selection criteria Proven knowledge and awareness of cultural and cross-cultural issues that impact on Aboriginal people within the Justice System. Experience in working with a wide range of government and non-government organisations and community engagement. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and manage multiple projects with conflicting priorities to achieve agreed targets and outcomes in a timely manner. Demonstrated high standard of oral and written skills, including report-writing, analysis and working with computers and databases. Extensive practical experience and advanced skills and knowledge relating to project management. Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership and advice on issues involving services to Aboriginal peoples and the ability to provide related training, coaching, and mentoring to all levels of staff. Ability and willingness to undertake extensive remote travel via vehicle and light aircraft and hold a current manual Northern Territory drivers' licence or the ability to obtain.
