St John Paul II College (JPC) is a Catholic, co-educational secondary school serving families in the north of Canberra. About the Role 
We are seeking a dynamic and committed person, to join our community as a Religious Education teacher commencing in Semester One 2025. This position may include teaching in a secondary area.
Teachers at JPC work with leaders in the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning and including content knowledge, teaching methodologies, classroom management, assessment and reporting, and professional development within their subject area. They also support student wellbeing through creating safe and inclusive learning environments where all students can flourish.

Key Responsibilities 
Develop teaching and learning programs based on the approved CECG Religious Education curricula.
Demonstrate an understanding of Moran's Model for Religious Education: Teaching people about Religion and Teaching people how to be Religious in a particular way.
Use a variety of evidence-based, high impact teaching practices.
Create a learning environment that stimulates learning and excellence for all.
Plan, prepare, record and evaluate work to be undertaken by classes.
Participate in the regular review and evaluation of Religious Education teaching programs, learning engagements and assessment tasks.
Fulfil all requirements relating to assessment, including accurate records of student progress and assessment documentation.
Communicate with parents in written reports and through parent teacher interviews, and at other times as required.
Communicate with and establish effective and cooperative working relationships with staff.
Be proficient in the use of IT as a teaching and administrative tool.
Maintain Accreditation hours in line with the Accreditation to work, teach and lead policy.

Qualifications  
Must hold tertiary Teaching qualification.
Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration.
Teaching Quality Institute (TQI) accreditation.

To teach Religious Education in a Catholic school (to be a Religious Education Teacher), a teacher must: 
Be a practising Catholic; 
Provide a reference from a current Parish Priest; and 
Have completed or be due to complete Accreditation D – Teach Religious Education in a Catholic school in accordance with the Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead in Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Policy. 

Selection Criteria 
A thorough knowledge of the Australian Curriculum with the ability to organise, select and design content for effective teaching and learning.
Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage positively with colleagues, students, and parents.
The capacity to be a proactive member of a professional learning community complying with the legal, administrative, and professional requirements.
Classroom practices and organisational skills that create supportive and safe environments for all students, including meeting a variety of learning needs.
A comprehensive understanding of assessment and reporting strategies and the need to provide effective and timely feedback to parents and students.

You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position.
