About the Ngaanyatjarra Council
Welcome to Ngaanyatjarra Lands, a vibrant tapestry of culture and community nestled within the vast beauty of the Australian desert.
Home to approximately 2000 Yarnangu (Ngaanyatjarra people) across 11 unique communities, our council is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our rich heritage spanning over 10,000 years and 250,000 square kilometres.
Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across the 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia.
Employing in excess of 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres and land services.
It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.

The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Relief Store Manager to join our team and play a key role in the delivery of food security and essential services to remote communities.
This is an exciting opportunity to oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple community retail stores, ensuring they run efficiently and sustainably.
You will be responsible for managing stock levels, controlling waste, and shrinkage, and ensuring the store meets both customer service expectations and community needs.
In this role, you will lead, train, and supervise staff, fostering a culturally respectful and productive work environment while promoting long-term profitability and the viability of the stores.
This role also offers the chance to build strong relationships with community members, understand their needs, and engage with them meaningfully to improve the services we provide.
Additionally, you'll be expected to demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making skills while adapting to the unique challenges of working in a remote environment, where flexibility and regular travel may be required.
With support from the NG Council, you will help create an operational excellence model that serves both the community's immediate needs and its long-term sustainability.
About You:
We are looking for a highly motivated and adaptable individual with proven management experience in a retail or customer service environment.
Ideally, you will have experience in a supermarket or similar setting, where you've successfully managed store operations, staff, and customer service.
You are a culturally sensitive and open-minded leader, with an awareness of Aboriginal culture and history, or a genuine willingness to learn and engage with the community.
You possess excellent communication skills and are adept at building strong relationships with a diverse range of people, both internally and within the community.
Your ability to navigate cross-cultural environments with patience, respect, and understanding is essential.
You are a strong people manager, capable of motivating and leading a diverse team while maintaining a positive, productive, and supportive work environment.
Your problem-solving and decision-making skills will be key as you address challenges and resolve customer issues effectively.
You're comfortable with the practical demands of working in remote areas, where flexibility and the ability to thrive in isolation are crucial.

Governance: The Ngaanyatjarra Council is the principal governance organisation in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.
The Ngaanyatjarra Council's administrative base is located in Alice Springs.
The third week of each month, the Ngaanyatjarra Council hosts both a general meeting for all members and a Board of Directors meeting.
