Principal Government Lawyer (EL2)
About the role
Our Commonwealth Government client is seeking to engage an experienced lawyer at the EL2 level to join their Litigation Branch in Adelaide CBD on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week).
The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for managing litigation arising out of agency portfolio legislation, including both advocacy and advice work.
An initial 6-month labour hire contract is on offer, with possible extension up to an additional 6 months.
Please note: only Australian citizens with an existing Baseline security clearance can be considered for this role.
Duties:
Leading and managing a caseload of legal matters, including high profile and contentious cases Providing high level advocacy in reviews of agency decisions heard in the Administrative Review Tribunal Leading and managing staff, including overseeing the management of performance, attendance and health and well-being, providing guidance to staff performing legal work Identifying, assessing, managing and reporting on legal risks in the agency and escalating issues to the executive Providing strategic legal advice to stakeholders Requisite skills/experience:
Admission as an Australian legal practitioner and an unrestricted practicing certificate Demonstrated experience managing both a caseload and staff Strong advocacy and legal advice writing skills Ability to strategically identify and manage risk Culture and benefits
