Community Mental Health - Rehabilitation Services (Whyalla) Whyalla Hospital hosts the Saltbush Community Mental Health Rehabilitation service, which is part of the South Australian Government's strategy to reform mental health services and provide a stepped model of care to regional South Australians at a location closer to home.
The service supports people who may have been living independently in the community but require a more supported environment to enhance their living skills, or those who may have completed their stay in hospital and are ready for community-based treatment and rehabilitation.
The service is available to all residents living in regional South Australia, not just those from Whyalla.
Relocation and Accommodation Assistance: Financial assistance for relocation may be available for eligible applicants for appointments prior to 31 December 2024.
Further details regarding this can be found here.Accommodation support may be available - conditions apply.Support and Training: Supervision – as per the Regional LHN Allied Health Supervision Framework.Access to Professional Development funding.Scholarships may be available to undertake a Certificate of Rural General Practice/Graduate Diploma of Rural Generalist Practice via the Allied Health Rural Generalist Pathway (AHRGP) Rural Generalist Program - JCU Australia.Access to contextual Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training (specific to the region) and access to Aboriginal Liaison Officers and Aboriginal Health Practitioners.Links with Rural and Remote Mental Health Services – for useful resources and professional support and/or Clinical Governance.About the Role: As an Occupational Therapist, you'll use your clinical expertise, specialized knowledge, and professional skills to create, implement, and evaluate comprehensive services designed to promote recovery in mental health care.
Your work will be centered around the individual needs of each consumer, ensuring a holistic approach to care in both community and rehabilitation settings.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, you'll collaborate with a dedicated team of psychologists, support workers, and students, playing a key role in shaping the clinical framework.
As a valued member of a diverse, multidisciplinary team, you'll have the opportunity to deliver impactful services that include preventive strategies, early interventions, therapeutic treatments, and ongoing assessments.
In this dynamic role, you will not only apply your expertise to drive recovery-focused mental health services but also provide guidance and support to your colleagues, enhancing the overall quality of care.

Must hold a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification and as a regulated profession be eligible for registration as an occupational therapist within Australia.Apply professional expertise, developing generalist/specialist knowledge, clinical competence, and experience to provide professional services to client groups in circumstances requiring increasingly complex practice skills.Exercise professional judgment in the selection and adaptation of established methods, procedures, and techniques within the profession.May provide a broad range of clinical and consultative services across a range of service settings, including one-on-one, group-based, and health promotion activities.Manage and prioritise personal workload and support others in developing workload management plans, including in the allocation of team resources.Immunisation Risk for this position is - Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances). The South Australian public sector promotes diversity and flexible ways of working including part-time.
