About the Role: We have a rare opportunity for a Regulatory Veterinarian – Raceday to join RV in a maximum term part-time capacity until July 2025 reporting to the General Manager - Veterinary Services within our Veterinary Services Team.
This role will be rostered to work five days a fortnight, covering a range of racecourse locations across the state.
The role will require the successful incumbent to provide expert advice to ensure that horses participating in thoroughbred racing in Victoria are physically suitable to compete and are presented for racing free of prohibited substances in accordance with the Rules of Racing.
The incumbent will attend race meetings, official trials and the Werribee International Horse Centre, providing appropriate veterinary services in line with RV policies and procedures.
Leading by example, the Regulatory Veterinarian - Raceday will ensure raceday veterinary staff have strong technical and commercial capability by providing feedback and guidance where required.
You will ensure continuous improvement in the processes adopted by the team and assist the GM - Veterinary Services audit the process for veterinary services.
Key Responsibilities include: Attend race meetings and official trials and provide appropriate veterinary services in line with RV policies and procedures.Provide veterinary services at the WIHC.Manage veterinary staff on raceday.Manage projects to enhance the safety and welfare of racehorses and integrity of racing, through liaison with peak research bodies and managing stakeholders.Assist the General Manager Veterinary Services audit the process for veterinary services at Victorian thoroughbred race meetings.Examine horses and advise Stipendiary Stewards regarding their suitability to race.Manage the RV drug control program at race meetings.Provide advice to Stipendiary Stewards and other relevant industry stakeholders on issues pertaining to health and welfare of thoroughbred racehorses, the Rules of Racing and compliance with drug control regulations.About You: As the successful candidate, you must possess the following:
Degree qualified in Veterinary Science from an Australian University or equivalent veterinary qualification recognised in Australia, registrable in the State of Victoria.Qualified for at least five years with broad experience of equine practice (preferable).Ability to make clinical decisions rapidly and under intense scrutiny.Demonstrated ability to work across teams in tight time constraints.Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations and conditions.Driver's license (Victorian).Demonstrated ability and experience in dispute resolution and negotiation through clear and concise communication to achieve a favourable outcome.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with frequent collaborators.Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability and strong organisational skills to be able to respond to changing priorities or requests for information.What can we offer you?
