This is an ongoing VPS 3 role at Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court.
The role forms part of a leadership team to supervise and develop staff. You will also have access to training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
About Us The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year.
The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the Role Registrars of the Magistrates' Court perform a wide range of administrative tasks, including in-court (bench clerk) duties, client-contact (telephone and counter) enquiries, and back-of-office administrative responsibilities. The role may be performed in a range of jurisdictional contexts, including Civil, Criminal, Family Violence, Diversion, as well as the Children's Court.
Registrars also exercise powers conferred under the Magistrates' Court Act 1989, other Acts and Rules, including the exercise of quasi-judicial and statutory powers.
Registrars liaise with a variety of stakeholders including the judiciary, Victoria Police, Office of Public Prosecutions, legal practitioners, various court user groups, as well as members of the public.
The role has staff supervision responsibilities and forms part of a leadership team tasked to develop and motivate staff across the jurisdictions.
About You The successful applicant must have demonstrated experience in the Victorian courts and tribunals and be able to provide authoritative advice on the relevant practices and procedures, including how to apply legislation.
You must be motivated and have a strong focus on customer service. You must work well within a multidisciplinary team and have well-developed planning and organisation skills.
