Please note this is for the 2025 Registrar Intake.This is a Recruitment Pool for Fixed Term Full Time appointments for 6-12 months with the possibility of extension(s).Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until  31/12/2024.Appointments for this position will not commence until 2025.Position Profile:  This Service Registrar role ranges from junior registrars with little neurosurgical experience through to senior registrars with post-graduate qualifications in neurosurgery working at fellowship level. The registrar team is coordinated by the most senior RACS SET trainees under the supervision of the Director of Neurosurgical Training. In the service there are 10 neurosurgical consultants, each with specific subspecialisation interests in addition to general neurosurgical workload.Most elective adult neurosurgery is performed at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) some at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) and emergency surgery occurs at SCGH and Royal Perth Hospital (RPH), and all paediatric neurosurgery at Perth Children's Hospital (PCH). There are outpatient clinics at SCGH, RPH, FSH and PCH. The Service Registrar will rotate through one or more hospitals with principal allocations will be at SCGH and RPH (adults). Duties will involve all facets of operative neurosurgery as well as administrative duties within the service. The Service Registrar will be involved in the state-wide neurosurgery roster covering all four hospitals.Area   Profile:  The Neurosurgical Service of Western Australia is principally based at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital but also includes Royal Perth Hospital, Perth Children's Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital. The service provides the emergency and elective neurosurgical services for the state of Western Australia. It is a training organisation within the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Surgical Education and Training (RACS SET) system administered by the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia. There are two types of neurosurgical registrars employed by the service: Training (RACS SET trainees) and Service Registrars (the role being advertised here).Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. Located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical service including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the State's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) Wellington Street Campus (RPH) is a 450-bed tertiary hospital focused on providing a range of complex and elective surgeries for adults. Home to the State major adult trauma centre, RPH offers tertiary-level emergency medicine, mental health and specialist medical services. It is also a premier teaching hospital and contribute to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care.Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services including the State rehabilitation service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State adult burns service. FSH also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations and hyperbaric medicine.Perth Childrens Hospital (PCH) is a new purpose built 298 bed specialist paediatric hospital and trauma centre providing outstanding inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory medical care to children and adolescents up to 16 years of age.
