About Us The Children's Court of Victoria (ChCV) has jurisdiction under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 to hear cases involving children and young people up to the age of 18 years, and in some cases up to 19 years.
It has a Family Division and a Criminal Division and it sits at locations throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
About the Role Registrars of the Children's Court perform a wide range of administrative tasks.
These may include in-court (bench clerk) duties, client-contact (telephone and counter) enquiries, and back-of-office administrative responsibilities.
The role may be performed in a range of jurisdictional contexts, including Family Division, Criminal Division, Intervention Orders, Koori Court and CAYPINS (Children and Young Person Infringement Notice System).
Registrars are also required to exercise powers conferred under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, Magistrates' Court Act 1989 and other Acts and Rules.
These powers involve the preparation and processing of administrative and statutory documentation and the exercise of discretionary quasi-judicial and statutory powers using professional judgement in applying legislative requirements, established rules and precedents, and relevant court practice directions.
