Fixed Term Full time opportunity About Us Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the 'Courts Group'.

MCV The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year.
The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
Registrars of the Magistrates' Court perform a wide range of administrative tasks throughout the Court's registries in Victoria.
These may include in-court (bench clerk) duties, client-contact (telephone and counter) enquiries, and back-of-office administrative responsibilities.
The role may be performed in a range of jurisdictional contexts, including Civil, Criminal, Family Violence ,VOCAT, Diversion, as well as the Children's and Coroner's Courts and other jurisdictions (VCAT, County and Supreme Courts) as required.
About the role Registrars are also required to exercise powers conferred under the Magistrates' Court Act 1989, other Acts and Rules.
These powers involve the preparation and processing of administrative and statutory documentation and the exercise of discretionary quasi-judicial and statutory powers using professional judgement in applying legislative requirements, established rules and precedents, and the Court's Practice Directions.Registrars are required to liaise with a number of stakeholders including the judiciary, Victoria Police, Office of Public Prosecutions, legal practitioners, various court user groups as well as members of the public.
It is essential that the person possesses excellent interpersonal and both verbal and written communication skills.This role has significant technical components as well as leadership and people-management components and, therefore, requires someone who has both an advanced understanding of the Court's protocols and procedures and well developed team-leadership experience.
The role will require travel withinthe region as necessary.
About you * As a Registrar of the Magistrates'Court, perform appropriate legal,administrative and quasi-judicialfunctions relating to the day-to-dayand ongoing operations of theCourt, under limited direction fromthe Registrar of the court.
* Provide information andauthoritative advice on court andtribunal procedures and practices,including applying legislationrelating to the Magistrates' Court ofVictoria, to relevant stakeholdersincluding legal practitioners, policeand corrections officers,government agencies, clients andthe general public.
* Liaise with the judiciary,magistracy, external organisations,groups and individuals thatinterface with the court.
* Operate relevant computersystems, including case-management systems such asCourtlink and other technologies.
* Assist with the direction,supervision and training of staff.
* Assist in the development,evaluation and implementation ofnew policies and procedures.
* Assist in the supervision, securityand maintenance of all courtbuildings and surrounds, ifrequired.
