Together, we can contribute to a more connected, compassionate mental health and criminal justice system.Job locationPosition based in Dame Phyllis Frost Centre Forensicare provides specialist mental health services for women at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, including Marrmak, a 20-bed custodial mental health unit, a specialist outpatient service, and a therapeutic day program. There is a strong focus on providing a healing environment for people in prisons and one that supports the well-being and safety of all staff. This approach recognises that many women who are imprisoned are also victims of crime and have challenging mental health conditions as a result. The word Marrmak is from the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people, which means 'safe'.About the Role:The Mental Health Nurse (RPN3) delivers care within a custodial setting, practising within a recovery framework and using sound judgment to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and maintain a high standard of patient care.The Mental Health Nurse recognises the individual's needs within the boundaries set by the profession, Forensic Care, and correctional services.The Mental Health Nurse (RPN3) delivers care within a custodial setting, practising within a recovery framework and using sound judgement to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and maintain a high standard of patient care in consultation with Corrections Victoria, Primary Health and numerous other stakeholders.An RPN 3 at DPFC will be required to work in the inpatient unit, reception assessments, at-risk reviews, and outreach services across the site.DutiesDemonstration of highly developed skills in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients in a custodial settingDemonstrate initiative in the delivery of nursing care and have the ability to practise autonomously.Crisis intervention assessment should be provided to prisoners throughout the facility as appropriate.Formulation and documentation of patient-centred care plans. Completion of initial and ongoing risk assessment of patients and liaison with the interdisciplinary team to provide a safe environment.Administration of medication to patients and monitoring of the effect on patients.About You:Holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent and possesses current registration with AHPRA A minimum 3 years of mental health nursing experienceDemonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.An awareness of the organisational structure policies and procedures.Demonstrated thorough working knowledge of current Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) standards of practice and contemporary mental health nursing practicesKnowledge of the relevant legislation.Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive health assessments of patients independently.Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions, counselling and therapeutic programs.Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
