Registered Nurse - Public Intoxication Response & Medical ClinicBDAC is an ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) registered as a member under the umbrella of VACCHO (Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) and represented nationally through NACCHO (National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation).
BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country.

What We Are Offering Part Time 0.6FTEFixed term 2 yearsAccess to Not-for-Profit Salary Packaging (up to $18,400 annually)11.5% SuperannuationSupportive work environmentOngoing training and development opportunitiesCompetitive, Above Award remunerationFree On-site ParkingBeautiful Bush Location in North BendigoAbout the Position The "Public Intoxication Response (PIR) service" plays a crucial role in addressing the health and wellbeing needs of individuals who are intoxicated in the Greater Bendigo/Castlemaine areas, aligning with the recent decriminalisation of public intoxication by the Victorian Government.
The core function of the PIR team is to provide an outreach-based response to individuals in need. This response includes conducting thorough health assessments, offering safe transportation to an appropriate location, monitoring the health and overall well-being of the individuals, and delivering follow-up care as needed.
In essence, the PIR service operates as a critical lifeline for those who are intoxicated, ensuring their safety and well-being while also contributing to a more compassionate and health-focused approach in the context of public intoxication.
We have a Bulk Billing Medical Clinic consisting of GPs, visiting specialists, Practice Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Aboriginal Health Workers, and Reception Team. On occasions, we will have students on placement, which include nursing, medical, paramedics and social work. We can support your medical needs in relation to general health, chronic disease, Maternal and Child Health.
Building works have commenced on our massive, two-storey New Medical Centre, which will provide the infrastructure to expand our medical services to Community, that will include increased allied health services and a dental clinic.
Key Responsibilities The Registered Nurse - Public Intoxication Response will have the following responsibilities:
Field response to triage the immediate health needs and provide nursing and first aid support as required.Monitor and support participants through the sobering up process, providing nursing interventions to a high standard.To provide a safe and caring environment in which intoxicated persons can sober up.To provide and facilitate access for the person to appropriate alcohol and other drug treatment options and support services when the person is sober.Other duties within the Medical Clinic include, but not limited to, the following:
Triage of patients and emergency management onsite.Assist GP with clinical procedures.Administration of medication.Pathology collection: phlebotomy, ECG.Cervical screening.Specific screening: Audiometry, Retinal photography, spirometry.Immunisation.Cold chain management.Ordering and receiving immunisation stock.Maintain clinical documentation.Assist with data management, networking with other providers, planning and management of patient care and patient advocacy.Conduct preventative/screening procedures; assist with patient education and community health promotion activities.Follow clinic policy and procedure for recall and reminder appointments.Ensure sterilisation and maintenance of clinical equipment.Maintain stocks of clinical supplies.Conduct 715 - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Assessments.About You • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and the ACCHO environment.• Mandatory qualifications: Registered Nurse.• Desired: experience in Mental Health/Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD).
