Summary of Need:
To provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with the established systematic problem-solving approach for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care, which are compliant with the regulatory standards in a correctional setting. Execute medical regimens as prescribed by licensed physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, podiatrists, and dentists. Includes advanced practice nurses such as: clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists. Advanced practice nursing is practiced by RNs who have specialized formal, post-basic education and who function in highly autonomous and specialized roles.
Job duties include, but are not limited to: Diagnose and treat a patient's health problems.Execute medical regimens as prescribed by licensed physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, podiatrists, and dentists, including EKGs and blood draws, and demonstrate strong assessment skills.Perform health assessments to identify new symptoms of possibly undiagnosed conditions or complications.Administer medication.Manage and deliver restorative or palliative care to the ill, disabled and dying.Teach and counsel patients about maintenance of health and prevention of illness or complications.Contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team and as a consultant on health-related committees to plan and implement the health care needs of consumers. Qualifications: Registered Nurse in New York State.At least 3 years of psychiatric nursing experience.Experience within an Emergency Room or Hospital setting preferred, but not required.Highly motivated, independent thinker and self-starter.Enthusiastic team player.Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.Able to manage multiple projects with strong follow-up and communication skills.Excellent computer skills (Word processing, office scheduling, familiar with Windows).Familiarity with NYS Quality Management and Nursing Administration.Increased consideration for candidates with experience in Joint Commission Accreditation, Infection Control, Quality Management, and those employed in a NYS OMH facility. Shift: Full Time - Days and/or Nights.
Every other weekend and some holidays.
Overtime is not required but permitted.
Contract Length: Up to 6 months
