About the role Transition role available to the right candidate. An exciting opportunity has become available for a permanent part-time Registered Nurse to work within the team of the LHD Drug Court/MERIT team.
In this position, the clinician will provide specialist drug and alcohol services within court diversion programs (Adult Court and Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment) for clients presenting with substance use issues.
Duties include providing evidence-based drug and alcohol assessment, case management, and counselling services to patients accessing the MERIT and Drug Court programs. The position will assist with participants on the Opioid Treatment program, assist with OAT Clinics, and work closely with their prescriber.
In this role, the opportunity to make a tangible difference to some of Australia's most vulnerable, including First Nations people, is unmatched. As rural and remote services are harder to access, clients are more unwell and need your help, showing immense appreciation for your assistance and are especially grateful for the opportunity to get well on country with family support. You will build fulfilling long-term relationships and clearly see the results of your work. This is a super rewarding role.
Working in the community, you will have great autonomy and see a wide range of presentations. Our senior staff and educators have a 'doors open' policy, so are readily available to provide you with the right information or support to make decisions and referrals. You'll work with the educators one-on-one until you find your feet, and as we look out for each other in the bush, your peers (a team of experienced staff) will always have your back and are only a call or Teams meeting away.
While you may be in another location many KM away, our District has one of the most advanced digital health networks, underpinning a cohesive multidisciplinary team with well-networked members who never feel isolated. You'll have access to psychiatrists for professional support and will build relationships with local GPs to work together to improve your client's health.
We are a District that thrives on innovation, and you will be encouraged to bring your ideas forward to develop our service. Recent examples include the 'Yarning space' and improving the inpatient discharge process to transition to community supports. Team members are regularly invited to present projects in Sydney to a broader health team. You'll also be supported with continuing education, and our focus on research gives you many opportunities to pursue interests in this area.
The benefits of working for NSW Health are so much more than a permanent role. Structured hours manage fatigue, paperwork is not burdensome, and the service is not volume-dependent. The care of clients is our number one priority, and you can do your best work with us.
