The mission of the Australian Federal Police is to provide dynamic and effective law enforcement to the people of Australia.
It provides policing throughout Australia in relation to the prevention and detection of crimes against the Commonwealth, its laws and integrity, and community police services to the Community of the ACT.
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Technical Officer - Cyber.
AFP Cyber Command's primary responsibility is to investigate computer related crimes under the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act 1995 against Commonwealth government, critical infrastructure and systems of national significance.
Our mission is to make Australia a hostile environment for cybercrime.
We employ technical officers to provide highly technical and sound advice on computer exploitation events, overt and covert intelligence collections and lead development of new collection and analysis techniques.
By joining Cyber Command you will work alongside software developers, technical analysts, intelligence analysts and police (sworn) investigators dedicated to the identification, prevention and disruption of cybercriminals.
You will use cutting-edge technology, work within a collaborative team environment and help develop innovative strategies and technologies as well as support operational activity.
What will you do? The role of the Technical Officer is to support the operational functions of Cybercrime Operations Teams.
You will provide technical solutions to challenges encountered during the investigative process, map out criminal infrastructure, analyse malicious toolsets and participate in Cybercrime search warrants.
Other activities include assisting with the digital forensic analysis of electronic devices and support investigation attribution activities.
You will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.
This is not a policing role, and does not require the use of police powers.
The role will include a variety of technical tasks, such as: Providing technical assistance, advice and solutions to investigations; Standardising investigations datasets for analysis; Programmatically collating and correlating disparate data sources; Assisting with technical review and analysis of digital evidence; Providing accurate, timely and impartial technical evidence to the courts; Representing the AFP at domestic and international forums, conferences, working groups and committees.
Essential Requirements You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application; A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one; Ability to apply technical knowledge and skills to solve novel, real world problems; Proven experience and should be able to work autonomously; Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new skills; Minimum 3 years' experience in a directly relevant field.
Desirable knowledge and experience Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Positive Vetting security clearance; Tertiary qualifications (Diploma and above) in a relevant technical discipline; Experience working with multiple operating systems; Coding experience using programming languages such as Python,.
NET and C#; Experience working with relational databases; Experience with application and system administration and maintenance; Experience with TCP/IP fundamentals, network infrastructure and computer security; Experience with malware analysis techniques and threat intelligence processes; Experience with digital forensics techniques and incident response processes; Experience with application security and computer network penetration methodology; Experience with cryptocurrencies; A passion for developing new technologies and problem solving; Have strong written, verbal and presentation skills; The ability to travel internationally and interstate, when required.
