The role The Regional Head of Legal – APAC is an integral role within the Legal, Compliance and Risk function.
Reporting to the Chief of Legal, Compliance and Risk, this position is responsible for all legal matters within the APAC region and includes managing a small team.
This role is responsible for providing commercially focused legal advice to grow and protect the business, including guiding the business through complex regulatory matters, highlighting business risks, and guiding pragmatic solutions to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
As a member of the Legal, Compliance and Risk department Leadership Team, you will offer strategic and leadership support to the department, key initiatives, and ways of working.
The role has a focus on Australia, coupled with a secondary focus on new and emerging APAC markets.
Among other matters, role responsibilities include:
Supporting the Group with local and international regulatory engagement.Supporting the delivery of key projects and business opportunities.Advice on legal and regulatory issues across all levels of the business on financial services regulations.Providing advice on general commercial matters including marketing and consumer law, contracts, privacy and data, dispute resolution, and ad hoc employment and IP matters.Partnering closely with senior stakeholders and the business to support delivery of timely outcomes in the achievement of strategic objectives.Leading the APAC legal function and a small team navigating a complex global and evolving operating environment.Managing external counsel and legal spend.Active member of the Group Operating Committee and other governance forums, as required.Champion a culture of ethical behaviour and trust in doing the right thing.About you This role suits a business-focused commercial lawyer with experience gained in a highly regarded law firm and/or in-house legal team.
A background in financial services, financial technology, and/or another highly regulated sector is strongly preferred. You offer sound judgment and communicate in a clear and concise manner.
Further, you are flexible, resourceful, and have a hands-on approach.
With a calm and resilient nature, you demonstrate the ability to negotiate and influence.
Highly effective stakeholder management and people management skills are also important attributes sought for this role.
