About the Office of General Counsel
The Office of General Counsel (OGC) is located within the Division of the Office of the Senior Vice-President and Chief Operations Officer.
The primary role of the OGC is to provide independent legal services to the University across a wide spectrum of University activities.
The OGC works proactively and collaboratively with its clients to produce viable and tangible solutions that align with the University's goals and appetite for commercial and other risks.
The OGC also plays a significant role in the development and review of University policies to ensure sound governance and statutory compliance.
OGC's clients include the University's Board of Trustees, the Vice-Chancellor and President, University Executives and other senior officers.
The OGC also provides legal services and advice to the University's controlled entities.
About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists within the Office of General Counsel for a Paralegal to join the team.
The primary work of the Paralegal is to provide paralegal support and services to the lawyers within the Office of General Counsel, the University General Counsel and the Director of the Compliance Program Unit.
There will be a particular focus on supporting the team's technology, litigation and commercial work and preparing responses to subpoenas and requests for information from regulatory bodies within tight timeframes.
This role will involve providing paralegal and administrative support on special projects as they arise.
The Paralegal reports to the Senior Technology and Commercial Lawyer and works closely with other OGC lawyers, Director of the Compliance Program Unit and the OGC support staff.
The Office of General Counsel is a relatively small team and relies on the flexibility and adaptability of its staff to service a dynamic University community.
This is a full-time, ongoing position based at Western's Parramatta South Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required.
About You
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal with proven experience in providing paralegal support within a legal practice and/or relevant tertiary qualifications in law or legal studies.
You will bring a sound understanding of legal concepts and practices, coupled with strong organisational and administrative skills that enable you to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Your exceptional communication skills will allow you to explain legal concepts clearly to senior staff and external partners from diverse professional backgrounds.
You will thrive working collaboratively in a close-knit team and possess a flexible, solutions-focused approach to a fast-paced workload.
Familiarity with ethical and professional standards for legal practitioners and an understanding of legal professional privilege within an in-house context will be essential for success in this role.
In this position, your ability to build effective working relationships and maintain a high level of confidentiality will ensure that the University's legal and compliance needs are met with professionalism and care.

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 6 $110,472 to $118,410 p.a.
