Queensland Fire DepartmentStatus: Permanent Full-timeClassification: Recruit Firefighter FFRDivision: Readiness & Response ServicesLocation: State-wide recruitment process for multiple locations across QLD.Contact: Closing Date: Midnight 16 February 2025Current QFD and IGEM employees and volunteers must apply via their internal careers site.About Us: The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities.The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and supports community safety outcomes.The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), and works together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities.The QFD focuses on reframing its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building cultural capability.Purpose of the roleProtect and serve the community by responding to fires and other emergencies in a professional and timely manner to minimise loss to life, property and the environment.Improve the safety and emergency preparedness of the community by contributing to fire prevention and community education activities.Mandatory requirementsBefore an applicant can be appointed as a Firefighter, they must provide evidence of or successfully complete the following:Currently holds a valid Blue Card (from Blue Card Services), with attached evidence to support.Manual Medium Rigid (MR) driver's licence as recognised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.Current Apply First Aid Certificate.Current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate.Compliance with QFD medical and fitness standards.Criminal History Check.Clinical Psychometric Assessment.Your key accountabilitiesOperations ManagementAs part of a fire crew, respond to fire, road crash rescue/entrapments, technical rescues, hazardous material and other emergency incidents.Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment in a safe and effective manner.Provide first aid and resuscitation where required.Maintain QFD equipment, resources and facilities to ensure a constant state of operational readiness.Undertake a range of functions requiring the practical application of acquired skills and knowledge.Undertake operational duties that are within the five roles of the Operations' Management function as described in the QFD Functional Management business model.Community Safety OperationsPromote community awareness in fire prevention by supporting and participating in community education programs and activities.Promote community safety by assisting with the inspection of property, buildings and emergency response equipment.Communicate effectively and appropriately within the workplace and with members of the community.Professional DevelopmentDevelop and maintain competencies as required by QFD and pursue opportunities for self-development through participating in relevant training programs.Participate in relevant tactical, operational and technical functions and maintain those skills through professional development programs.Operations Business ManagementUndertake administrative duties and contribute to the maintenance of manual and computerised station records.Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to organisational health policies and principles.Contribute to all station activities and promote a productive work environment through a positive team approach.Undertake all duties with the highest level of personal integrity and professionalism.Comply with legislative, policy and procedural requirements appropriate to the position.Comply with responsibilities of WHS legislation.Recruitment processThe recruitment process will commence in 2025, with successful applicants being offered start dates in 2026.The Recruitment Process Consists Of The Following Stages:Online ApplicationBeep TestOnline AssessmentsOperational Focused Abilities Test (OFAT)Panel InterviewPsychological AssessmentIntegrity ChecksMedical AssessmentMore information and approximate assessment dates can be found on our website.
