Main duties of the jobTo project a positive and friendly welcome and service to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
To assist and direct patients in accessing the most appropriate service or healthcare professional in a polite, efficient and helpful way.

The practice currently consists of 5 partners, 3 salaried GPs, 1 ANP, 2 nurses, a phlebotomist, and an admin/reception team caring for a list size of 10,000 patients. We take great pride in serving the diverse needs of the community.
Job responsibilitiesRECEPTION DUTIES
Understand and maintain confidentiality at all times.Answer the telephone as priority and deal with appropriately.Make appointments with GPs and Nurses, asking appropriate questions to ensure appropriate appointment length and time is offered.Receive incoming calls, deal with patients' general queries at reception desk, record messages for GPs and Nurses.Prepare repeat prescriptions using the computer.Pass on unresolved queries to a colleague when leaving at lunchtime or evening.Ensure Paers (Check-In system) is set up for the surgery.Ensure that the surgery is prepared as per room rota for the use of doctors, practice nurses, and other visiting professionals.Have knowledge of all office procedures and fulfill any of these duties when required.Deal with Temporary Registration.Follow up queries from patients regarding the result of diagnostic tests, x-rays, and smear tests.Book emergency ambulance at GP request.Collect non-NHS fees, record and produce receipt for patient/carer.Follow protocol for preparation of acute and repeat prescriptions.Lock and unlock premises and set (un-set) alarm system.Awareness of Health and Safety of self and others.Person SpecificationQualificationsGCSE English and Maths (C and above).SkillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.Good time management.Prioritisation of tasks.Knowledge of medical terminology.Knowledge of GP clinical computer systems.Personal QualitiesHonest and loyal.Trustworthy.Professional and discrete.Works well under pressure.Calm.Organised.Sense of humour.Punctual.Flexible.ExperienceExperience of working in a customer-facing environment.Experience of working as part of a team and able to promote team spirit.Experience of working with the general public.Previous experience of working in GP surgery preferable.Knowledge of Emis Web.Disclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
