Reception/Guest Services Officer APS Level 4 This is an Affirmative Measures opportunity. The duties of the APS 4 Guest Services Officer include:Greet and host guests and deliver services to assist clients to search and access the AIATSIS Collection at the Central Australia facility.Support guests as they explore and learn from the exhibition space as well as provide family history research assistance.Work with internal and external stakeholders in activities involving the AIATSIS collection and other AIATSIS resources.Respond to requests for collection material from the AIATSIS collection in a timely and accurate manner.Undertake research on collection material.Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders who are both Indigenous and non-Indigenous on a range of complex matters.Play a key role as part of the team in ensuring the safekeeping/preservation of the items of the AIATSIS collection, particularly those in the display area.Along with the team in Mparntwe, you will be trained and supported by the Assistant Director, Community Engagement & Access, and the Collection Access and Family History Team at Maraga in Canberra.Cultural capability - essential Roles at AIATSIS require candidates to understand the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and proven culturally appropriate engagement and communications skills. The nature of this role requires the candidate to consistently demonstrate the following specific cultural capabilities:Understands Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures; identifies issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.Builds and strengthens relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.Understands Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business within AIATSIS and the outcomes the agency is responsible for delivering.Uses diverse knowledge and experiences to achieve outcomes.Skills, knowledge and personal attributes To be successful in this role, you will have well developed stakeholder engagement skills, and have an interest in sharing the story of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia. You will come with the following skills, experience and attributes:Demonstrated ability to work in a customer-focused role in an information setting.Ability to communicate with, and provide advice to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, clients, and colleagues verbally and in writing.An understanding of the role of a major specialist collection in meeting the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and researchers.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on a range of complex matters.Demonstrated ability to recognise and use initiative to solve problems in a creative manner.Demonstrated ability to represent an institution in a public capacity.Ability to host clients and visitors and support them to access collection material.Ability to work as part of a team and undertake a wide variety of tasks adapting to business priorities in a flexible manner as required.Demonstrated experience working and communicating sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as these roles require a high level of cultural competency.Significant understanding of past events impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.What we offer We understand that you will work best when you have a healthy work-life balance and can attend to your family commitments.
