This will see you lead the implementation of the ranger team operational and business plans.In addition to leading all the land management staff and ensuring work health and safety requirements are met, you will manage budgets and acquittals.LocationThe position is based in Albany, with regular travel across the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar region.HoursFull time (37.5 hours per week).About usThe Wagyl Kaip and Southern Noongar people are the Traditional Owners of the Great Southern Region, Western Australia. WKSN AC was formed as a result of the Southwest Native Title Settlement. WKSN AC has been established to assist Wagyl Kaip & Southern Noongar people to maintain, protect, promote and support their culture and manage the land and waters within their country. To learn more about WKSN AC visit wagylkaip.org.au.Key responsibilities:In cooperation with the Ranger Coordinator and Senior Ranger implement the WKSN AC Ranger Operational and Business Plan.Ensure the establishment of the new WKSN AC Ranger depot in Albany and any new depots.Oversee the purchase of land management equipment (including vehicles).Organise the recruitment of the WKSN AC Ranger Team/s.Ensure the efficient and safe operations of the Land Management Team.Supervise the implementation and smooth and safe running of the WKSN AC Junior Ranger Program (in cooperation with the Junior Ranger Program Coordinator).Manage budget acquittals, implementation of annual plans, invoicing and payment of expenses where appropriate.Ensure the WKSN AC Land Management Team (Ranger Team) is meeting occupational health and safety obligations and standards.Establish cooperative arrangements with DBCA and other stakeholders (where appropriate) to arrange on-country training, land management activities and Noongar cultural site protection.Ensure all staff work respectfully and effectively with WKSN Elders to ensure Noongar cultural safety for staff and protection of Noongar cultural sites and values.Implement regular reviews of staffing requirements including supervision and performance management of the WKSN AC Land Management Team (Ranger Team).Use the WKSN AC Land Management System (training will be provided).Other duties as required.Selection Criteria:Experience leading a Team working in a land-related field such as land or environmental management and/or Aboriginal cultural heritage management.The ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including writing briefings and funding applications and operational plans.An understanding of Occupational and Health and Safety practices and obligations.The ability to oversee and lead a Team to safely and efficiently undertake works in semi-remote locations.The ability to use various computer applications (Excel, Word etc.) and manage budgets, employees and meet Grant Funding acquittal obligations.Problem-solving ability and initiative.TAFE or Tertiary qualifications in a land-related field will be highly regarded.Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to engage effectively with the broader WKSN Noongar community and to liaise with government and corporate stakeholders.Physical requirementsThe position may require heavy lifting and working outdoors.TravelThis position will require travel throughout the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar region (including some overnight stays) and some intrastate travel.DiversityUnder section 51 of the Equal Employment Opportunity ACT 1984, we seek to increase diversity of our workforce to better meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders, and to improve employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
