Council is seeking an experienced Ranger to join their team to ensure Local Laws issues, regulatory parking, and Animal Management Services are dealt with in compliance with Government Legislation, Council corporate plan goals and industry best practice.
This position can will be based at Dalby and Tara. You will be required to work in both locations of differing days/as operationally required. Reporting to the Supervisor Ranger Services, you will be:
Undertaking robust, rigorous and detailed investigations of alleged offences and applications for permits under Council's Local Laws and relevant State legislation and implementing correct regulatory action (e.g. warnings, infringements, enforcement notices, seizures, etc.)Using high level discretionary thinking, to make the rigorous and effective decisions to achieve the best possible outcomes in accordance with regulatory requirements and Council's policies and procedures;Gathering evidence on alleged breaches of law, analyse, assess and assist in preparation of reports and briefs of evidence and representing Council as a witness in a court of law;Understanding, interpreting, and applying relevant legislation, Council policies and procedures;Managing and maintaining animal impounding facilities to provide a high level of care for impounded animals, and to manage the custody and other arrangements for impounded animals, including animal welfare.About yourself The successful applicant will have experience;
Using highly effective interpersonal skills to achieve outcomes. This will include the ability to negotiate, persuade, inform, resolve, and interact effectively at all levels (internal and external), showing empathy and respect, resolving conflict, and managing difficult customers;Confidently handle animals and assess animal behaviour and welfare (including potentially aggressive animals)Ability to understand, interpret and enforce relevant legislation at a high level and to exercise judgement in the application of this legislation and produce thorough and accurate written regulatory correspondence and reports.It is also essential for the successful candidate to have:
A Certificate IV in an investigatory or animal management discipline or willingness to undertake study upon commencement;a minimum 12 months experience as a Local Laws Officer, or relevant experience in a similar role OR be able to demonstrate equivalent experience, skills, knowledge and ability; andhold a Current Queensland "C" Class driver's licence;have animal handling experience (desirable);hold a relevant gun licence (Council will reimburse specialist licences that are a Council imposed requirement of the position description), or willingness and ability to obtain; andbe an Authorised Implanter (microchipping) with qualification (desirable).The benefits working for WDRC: Relocation Assistance Relocation assistance of up to $5,000 may be provided to the preferred candidate if relocating to the Western Downs Region.
